Experience Matters. Attorney Experience Matters Most.
Experience matters. Most everyone knows that. BUT what a lot of people don't consider is the Attorney Experience matters most. Allow me to explain.
Let me begin by saying that at no time is your real estate advisor with a law degree a replacement for an attorney. Even though we have a legal background, we can not represent you in any legal capacity while we are acting as your real estate advisor. With that disclaimer safely in place.
What are the 6 legal skills that your retired attorney turned global real estate advisor has to leverage your position in a real estate transaction?
- We have studied the LAW. We don’t know every law that exists, but we have studied contract law, and more than likely real estate law, tax law, family law, estate law, and more. In other words, we have taken just about any legal course that “has a boundary” with real estate.
- We are RESEARCHERS. It becomes second nature for us to research everything from the ingredients on a box of cereal to the transaction history of a property you are interested in buying or selling.
- We can NEGOTIATE. An attorney is TRAINED in the art (and science) of negotiation. By the time we have completed 3 years of law school, a couple of summer internships, passed the bar, and spent a little time in the “real world” practicing law, our negotiation skills have been honed to expert level.
- We have a LEGAL BRAIN. I have not yet decided if legal brains are drawn to the legal profession OR if the education creates the brain (perhaps a little of both). One thing is for sure…we don’t turn off that legal brain. Ever. Ask anyone married to a retired attorney. If they are married to a retired litigator, offer your sympathies.
- Because that legal brain is always running, we are likely to be the first to see any POTENTIAL ISSUES and place you in the hands of someone who does practice law. We have been trained to see things that others don’t.
- We have sworn to operate under a specific model of conduct-the American Bar Association’s Rules of PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT. We will bring this professional conduct into our relationship as your real estate advisor.
